A Simple Way To Have A Chat With God

Look, I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door , I will come in and we will share a meal together as friends.

Revelation 3:20 (NLT)

If prayer is having a conversation with someone I can’t see and can’t hear why does it seem like I am the only one who is talking.

We may feel like God doesn’t talk to us . So how does He speak ? He speaks and interacts with us in the same way we have conversations with other people that we can’t see and can’t hear.

VIRTUALLY

If you are reading this post we are talking or at least I am.

If you then clap or highlight or respond with a comment then we are having a conversation.

A conversation where we both get to say something and we both get to respond.

We are involved in Virtual Conversations most of our day .

Virtual Can Be Real

Land lines are almost extinct. We do much of our banking and other business and shopping online.

We connect via our devices . We connect by email, texts, PDF’s and sometimes FaceTime.

There are ups and downs with with these systems. I find having conversations by ‘text messages’ particularly frustrating . That is a story for another day.

We need to go deeper with people and with God.

How do we do that?

How do we engage with people and with God when we live in a ‘Virtual World’?

It begins by engaging with the ‘text message’. We ask the question : ‘What are they really saying?’

We ask the question : ‘How shall I respond?’

Have you received a confusing text or email lately? Maybe you felt hurt or offended.

We don’t understand what is being said. We may feel that the verse applies to everyone else but not to me.

We need to slow down. Take a deep breath.Based on the truth we know about the person we ask ourselves :

What are they really saying?

The same can happen in our relationship with God. We read a verse or a passage of Scripture and are confused or discouraged or fearful.

We need to engage with God – Virtually.

John Wimber used to say:

The Bible is the menu not the meal.

Larry Crab wrote a book :

66 Love Letters: A Conversation With God That Invites You Into His Story

Jesus invites us to :

Open the door and share a meal with Him

Here’s how

Read- wRite-Rewrite – Respond – Repeat

Read the verse in several translations.

wRite the verse in one or two translations that speak to you.

Rewrite the verse as if God is speaking to you.

Respond Record your thoughts and questions about what you think He is saying

Repeat until the virtual but real ‘text’ conversation is finished.

Behold , I am standing at the door knocking . If your heart is open to hear my voice and you open the door within, I will come in to you and feast with you and you will feast with me.

Have a virtual but real conversation with your Father today.

Virtually yours
